Step 1: Define your open work shift as either time-based or a flexible shift with a maximum length.
The start time for open shifts is 12:00 AM. This is ideal for employees who can work anytime during the day but not past midnight.
Step 2: If this is enabled, a worker may begin a new open shift even if that worker already had a shift the same day. Multiple scheduled shifts can be created in the calendar regardless.
Optional: You can also specify rounding rules for the start and end of the shift. To select rounding rules, ensure they are first defined in the Rounding Rules editor.
Step 3: Edit your organization's shift rules by setting:
1. Maximum time clocked OUT during shift - Set the maximum time a worker can be clocked out during a shift. If exceeded, the worker must start a new shift if available.
2. Minimum time between shifts - This value defines the minimum duration a worker must remain clocked out before starting a new shift.
3. Maximum time administrator can extend shift early - This setting determines how much earlier an administrator can allow workers to clock in before their scheduled shift starts. For fixed shifts, it overrides the shift class’ Revision and Lockout Rules. Administrators can adjust this in the Console under Manage => Time Cards by clicking the eyeball icon next to the punch.
4. Maximum time administrator can extend shift late - This value sets the maximum amount of time an administrator can extend a worker's clock-out beyond the scheduled end of their shift. For fixed shifts, it overrides the shift class’ Revision and Lockout Rules; for flexible shifts, it overrides the maximum shift length. Administrators can make this adjustment in the Console under Manage => Time Cards by clicking the eyeball icon next to the punch. The first four settings specify the duration in hours and minutes (HH:MM format).
5. Require Days Off - This setting allows you to specify the number of days off an employee is permitted within a set period.
6. Flag selected shift violations instead of rejecting punch - In the case of certain violations, a worker can still punch in, but the shift violation will be marked as an exception for administrator review. You can choose one of the three options, or you may select all of them.
7. Round joined punches - If enabled, a ‘Job Transfer’ or any other scenario where the OUT and subsequent IN punch happen in the same minute will be rounded according to the shift class or open shift rules. If not enabled, the time remains unchanged. This setting is ideal for rounding times per individual job.
