Near-field communication (NFC) tags use short-range wireless communication. They come in different forms, like this example from Amazon: NFC Tags on Amazon
You can attach the tag to a worker’s badge or any preferred item. Each tag has a unique ID that is enrolled per worker. After enrollment, the worker can clock IN or OUT by holding the tag near a mobile device running the Fareclock app.
NFC tags can replace the worker’s PIN or be used together with face recognition.
Make sure the mobile device has an NFC sensor, as not all devices support it.
This feature is available starting with Fareclock app version 3.1.
Enable
Step 1: Go to the Fareclock Admin Console and go to Settings. Under ‘Settings’ find and click ‘Devices’.
Step 2: Click the ‘Defaults’ tab above.
Step 3: In the Identity Settings section, click the circle next to “Enabled” to activate this feature.
By default, workers will be asked to enter their PIN first, but they can tap the button in the upper-right corner to switch to NFC Tag. Only one method is needed.
Step 4: To make NFC Tag the default option and PIN the backup, change the Authentication Order so that NFC Tag is first and PIN is second.
Assigning NFC Tags to Workers
After enabling NFC tags, assign each worker a unique NFC tag. You can do this either through the mobile app or the Console.
Mobile App:
Step 1: To enroll worker QR codes using the mobile app, first open the Workers list. This section requires administrator login.
Step 2: If you’re adding a new worker, tap the + icon in the upper-right corner to open the worker setup form.
Step 3: After adding the worker, you can proceed to enroll their NFC tag.
If the worker already exists, simply select their name from the list to enroll in the NFC tag.
Step 4: Then, tap the ‘Enroll new NFC Tag’ button.
Step 5: Hold the NFC tag close to the device. Some devices detect the tag near the top edge, while others require placing it against the back. Refer to your device’s documentation for the correct placement.
Once scanned, the Fareclock app will display a success message along with the NFC Tag ID for confirmation.
Console:
Step 1: Go to the Fareclock Admin Console and go to Settings. Under ‘Settings’ find and click ‘Users’.
Step 2: You will see a list of users, click on the user you want to enter NFC Tag ID.
Step 3: Under ‘Basic Information,’ you will find NFC Tag ID.
To get the NFC Tag ID for a worker, download the free “NFC Tools” app available on both iOS and Android. In the app, tap “READ” to scan the NFC tag and view its Serial Number. This is the NFC Tag ID. Enter that number into the “NFC Tag ID” field in the Console for the corresponding user.
How to Punch
Tap the Worker Start button on the app’s start screen to open the NFC Tag scanner.
The worker should scan their NFC tag the same way it was done during enrollment.
If face recognition is also enabled, the NFC tag scan may occur after face recognition, depending on internet connectivity and whether the worker was successfully recognized.
