The Request Shift Extension feature allows workers to request additional work hours before, during, or after their scheduled shift. This feature ties into existing shift card overrides and enables a smoother, more accurate shift extension request workflow.
This article explains how the feature works, how workers can submit requests,and how admins handle approvals.
Enable
Admins can configure how shift extensions behave by adjusting the Advanced Settings for shifts.
Step 1: Go to the Fareclock Admin Console and go to Settings. Under ‘Settings’ find and click ‘Shifts’.
Step 2: Under “Advanced Settings,” check the box for “Enable Shift Extend Requests.”
Step 3: Once enabled, additional settings will appear for “Maximum past days for shift extend request” and “Maximum future days for shift extend request.” Configure these values according to your organization’s needs.
How Workers Request a Shift Extension (Mobile App)
Workers using app version 3.6.1 can access this from multiple locations in the app:
- Actions Tab
- Personal Device Home Screen
- Admin Worker List (for supervised devices)
Submitting a Request
Step 1: Tap ‘Extend Shift’.
Step 2: Tap the plus icon in the right corner of your screen.
Step 3: Select the shift (previous, current, or upcoming).
Step 4: After selecting the shift review and adjust the following:
- Expected Start Time
- Expected End Time
How Admins Review and Manage Requests (Console)
Once a worker submits a request, admins can review it on the worker’s timecard.
Step 1: Go to the Fareclock Admin Console and go to Manage. Under ‘Manage’ find and click the ‘Time Cards’.
Step 2: Click the ‘Extend Requests’ tab above.
Step 3: Approve or reject the request.
To approve, click the thumbs-up button; to reject, click the thumbs-down button.
Admin Notification Settings
Admins receive notifications when a worker submits a shift extension request, depending on:
- Notification preferences
Note that notification preferences are configured separately for administrators and workers. Administrators receive alerts for requests submitted by workers, while workers receive notifications when their own requests are approved or rejected.
