The Device Defaults page allows you to configure the default settings applied to your time clock devices. These settings help standardize device behavior across your organization and reduce the need to configure each device individually.
Identity Settings
Face mode - Select how the device uses facial recognition during clock-in and clock-out.
- Off: Disables facial recognition. Workers can clock in using other available authentication methods.
- Detect any human face: Verifies that a live human face is present but does not identify the specific worker. This helps prevent non-human objects or photos from being used during clock-in.
- Recognize exact worker face: Verifies that the detected face matches the enrolled facial profile of the assigned worker, providing an additional layer of identity verification.
Try to identify worker face without PIN - If enabled, Fareclock will use facial recognition to identify the worker. If disabled, facial recognition is only used to verify that a live person is present, and the worker must identify themselves using another method, such as a PIN.
If the device is offline, has a slow internet connection, or cannot identify the worker by face, Fareclock will prompt the worker to enter their PIN.
QR Code - If enabled, you can generate and assign a unique QR code to each worker for clocking in and out instead of using a PIN.
Note: Requires Fareclock Mobile App version 2.10 or later.
NFC Tag - If enabled, you can enroll an NFC tag for each worker to use for clocking in and out instead of entering a PIN.
Note: Requires Fareclock Mobile App version 3.1 or later and a device with NFC support.
Authentication order - The Authentication Order determines the order in which authentication methods are shown during clock-in or clock-out. Workers can skip to the next available method if they prefer not to use the current one. Set the most commonly used method first for a faster sign-in experience.

Geo Settings
Geo Location Tracking Mode -
● Live with Breadcrumbs & Geofences: Continuously tracks workers' locations while they are clocked in, displaying their travel history (breadcrumbs) on the map. Supports geofences for automatic clock-ins, clock-outs, and entry or exit alerts.
● Live with Geofences: Tracks workers' clock-in and clock-out locations. Supports geofences for automatic clock-ins, clock-outs, and entry or exit alerts.
● Clock IN & OUT with Geofences: Records workers' clock-in and clock-out locations and allows geofences to be applied to those locations.
● Off: Disables location tracking.
Block punches if Location is not available - Geolocation may not be available if the device is outside GPS, cellular, or Wi-Fi coverage.
Block devices with Location services turned off - This setting detects when Location Services are turned off on Android devices. It does not apply to iOS devices, as disabling Location Services on iOS prevents the Fareclock app from allowing clock-ins and clock-outs. This setting does not detect Airplane Mode or disabled network connections.
To block Airplane Mode, enable the Block Airplane Mode setting. To require an internet connection, enable the Require Online Connection setting under Synchronization Settings. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.12 or later.
Block devices with fake location - If enabled, Android devices using fake GPS or mock location apps will be blocked from clocking in or out. This setting does not apply to iOS devices, as iOS does not support GPS spoofing in the same way.
Note: This is a legacy setting for Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.11 or earlier. In version 2.12 and later, fake GPS locations are always blocked regardless of this setting.
Trigger on enter Geo fence - Enable this option to show a notification when a worker enters a geofence, reminding them to clock in, or to automatically clock them in. The geofence must be configured on the worker's personal device. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 3.6.2 or later.
- Disabled: Geofence-based clock-ins are disabled.
- Prompt to Clock IN: Displays a notification prompting the worker to clock in when they enter a geofence.
- Auto Clock IN: Automatically clocks the worker in when they enter a geofence.
Enable Auto Clock OUT on exit Geo Fence - If enabled, workers are automatically clocked out when they leave the geofence where they clocked in. This feature only applies to geofences configured with a Block policy.
- Power Efficient: Prioritizes battery life. Location updates and tracking may be delayed when a worker starts moving, and location heartbeats may be sent less frequently.
- Aggressive: Prioritizes location accuracy and real-time tracking. Detects movement more quickly and sends location heartbeats more consistently, but may use more battery power.
Connection timeout - If a worker's device stops sending its location while they are clocked in for longer than the specified time, both the worker and administrators will receive a real-time alert. Another alert will be sent when the device resumes sending its location. To receive these alerts, administrators must enable Geo Alerts in the Notifications section of their user profile.
Accuracy threshold - Mobile devices estimate the accuracy of their location based on GPS, cellular, and Wi-Fi signals. Lower accuracy values indicate a more precise location. If a location's accuracy exceeds the specified threshold, it will be ignored.
Stationary Threshold - When a device is stationary, it must move beyond the specified distance before Fareclock considers it to be in motion and starts tracking the trip.
Idle max speed - When a device is in motion, its speed must remain below the specified threshold before Fareclock considers it stationary. This setting works together with the Idle Time to Stationary setting.
Idle time to stationary - When a device is in motion, its speed must remain below the Idle Max Speed threshold for the specified duration before Fareclock considers it stationary.
Feature Settings
Streamline worker interaction with time clock -
If enabled, the time clock streamlines the clock-in process by opening the worker login screen by default and automatically clocking workers in or out after they log in. If Job Costing is enabled, workers will still be prompted to select a job before clocking in.
- Default to Worker Login View: Opens the worker login screen by default instead of the home screen.
- Auto Punch Upon Worker Login: Automatically clocks workers in or out after they log in.
Note: If Job Transfer is enabled, workers will always need to manually clock out.
Exit after punch delay seconds - Specifies how long the app remains on the confirmation screen after a worker clocks in or out before returning to the Start screen. The timer resets each time the screen is touched. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 3.5 or later. In earlier versions, this setting only applies when Auto Punch Upon Worker Login is enabled.
If worker attempts to punch within – hours of previous punch - Sets the minimum time allowed between punches.
- Allow It: Allows the worker to clock in or out without restrictions.
- Prompt Worker to Confirm: Asks the worker to confirm the punch before it is recorded.
- Block Attempt: Prevents the worker from clocking in or out until the specified time has passed.
Announcement - Displays an announcement on the device, either on the Home screen or after a worker logs in, depending on the selected mode. Announcements can also be customized for individual devices or workers.
Allow workers to submit missed punch request - If enabled, workers can submit a Missed Punch request through the Time Clock app. Missed punch requests are not added to the worker's time records until they are approved by an administrator. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.13 or later.
Allow workers to access their own punch history, total tallies, and schedule - If enabled, workers can view their own attendance information in the Time Clock app. Disable this setting if you do not want workers to access this information. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.11 or later.
Show Help link in left menu - If enabled, workers can access the Help link in the Time Clock app. Disable this setting if you do not want workers to view it. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.11 or later.
Security Settings
Prevent time tampering - If enabled, Fareclock detects attempts to change the device's system time to manipulate clock-in or clock-out records. You can choose to either block the time clock until the system time is corrected or require an administrator to unlock it. Any punches made after tampering is detected will be flagged for review.
- Allow It: Allows workers to continue using the Time Clock app even if system time tampering is detected.
- Lock While Tampered Until Time Is Corrected: Prevents workers from using the Time Clock app until the device's system time is corrected.
- Lock Once Detected Until Admin Unlocks: Locks the Time Clock app when system time tampering is detected and requires an administrator to unlock it, even after the system time has been corrected.
Block rooted devices - If enabled, rooted Android devices are blocked from using the Time Clock app.
Block airplane mode - If enabled, Android devices in Airplane Mode are blocked from using the Fareclock Time Clock app. This setting does not apply to iOS devices because iOS does not allow apps to detect Airplane Mode.
To require an internet connection, enable the Require Online Connection setting under Synchronization Settings. To require location services, configure the appropriate setting under Geo Settings. Requires Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.12 or later.
Lenient administrator access on legacy versions - This setting applies only to Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App versions earlier than 2.7.
If enabled, administrators with permission to Setup Clocks can access all administrative functions, including adding workers, enrolling worker faces, and punching on behalf of workers.
If disabled, administrators can only perform these actions if they have the appropriate permissions. Device Administrator PINs can still view worker information if View Workers permission is enabled, but they cannot add workers, enroll faces, or punch on behalf of workers. In Fareclock Time Clock Mobile App version 2.7 and later, these permissions are managed through more granular administrator and Device Administrator PIN permissions, making this setting no longer applicable.
Synchronization Settings
Display server time on clock - If enabled, Fareclock displays the server time instead of the device's system time and hides the device's status bar to prevent the system time from being shown. This is useful if the device's clock is inaccurate. If disabled, Fareclock displays the device's system time.
Require device be online - If enabled, workers can only clock in or out when the device is connected to the internet and synchronized with Fareclock's cloud service. This helps prevent mismatched punches when workers use multiple time clocks with unreliable internet connections.
Switch IN/OUT action - Specifies how Fareclock handles clock-in or clock-out attempts when a worker is already clocked in or already clocked out.
- Never: Does not allow workers to clock in or out if their current status does not match the action.
- Offline: Allows workers to clock in or out only when the device is offline and their status cannot be verified.
- Always: Always allows workers to clock in or out, even if their current status does not match the action.
Promote switching IN/OUT - If workers are allowed to switch between clocking in and clocking out, this setting determines whether the Switch button is displayed in the center of the screen instead of the corner.
