If you chose "Schedule" in the previous setup, skip this step and move to the next setup. If you selected "Schedule+Open," configure your open shift settings here.
Step 1: Define your open work shift as either time-based or a flexible shift with a maximum length.
The start time for open shifts is 12:00 AM. This is ideal for employees who can work anytime during the day but not past midnight.
Step 2: If this is enabled, a worker may begin a new open shift even if that worker already had a shift the same day. Multiple scheduled shifts can be created in the calendar regardless.
Step 3: Open Shift Breaks allow administrators to configure a standard break policy for workers without the need to create a shift class or schedule. This simplifies the setup process for organizations that prefer to apply a blanket break rule across their workforce.
Once configured, workers can take their designated breaks during their shift while maintaining a straightforward and easy-to-manage setup.
Breaks May Be Combined: If enabled, workers may use their total allocated break time during any one of the available break periods. This allows multiple break allocations to be taken as a single combined break instead of separate breaks.
Optional: You can also specify rounding rules for the beginning and end of the shift. Before you can select rounding rules, you'll need to define them in the Rounding Rules editor.
Step 3: Edit your organization's shift rules by setting:
1.Maximum time clocked OUT during shift - Set the maximum time a worker can be clocked out during a shift. If exceeded, the worker must start a new shift if available.
2. Minimum time between shifts - This value defines the minimum duration a worker must remain clocked out before starting a new shift. The first two settings specify the duration in hours and minutes (HH:MM format).
3. Maximum time administrator can extend shift early - This value defines the maximum amount of time an administrator can override individual shift cards to allow a worker to Clock In and begin accruing work hours before the scheduled start of the shift.
For fixed shifts, this setting overrides the Revision and Lockout Rules defined in the shift class.
Shift cards can be overridden in the Console by navigating to Manage → Time Cards, then clicking the eyeball icon next to the punch.
4. Maximum time administrator can extend shift late - This value defines the maximum amount of time an administrator can override individual shift cards to allow a worker to Clock Out and continue accruing work hours after the scheduled end of the shift.
For fixed shifts, this setting overrides the Revision and Lockout Rules defined in the shift class. For flexible shifts, it overrides the maximum shift length.
Shift cards can be overridden in the Console by navigating to Manage → Time Cards, then clicking the eyeball icon next to the punch.
5. Enable Shift Extend Requests - If enabled, workers can submit shift extension requests directly through the mobile app. Administrators can review and either approve or deny these requests from the Console. For more information about this feature, refer to this help article.
6. Require Days Off - This setting allows you to specify the number of days off an employee is permitted within a set period.
7. Flag selected shift violations instead of rejecting punch - In the case of certain violations, a worker can still punch in, but the shift violation will be marked as an exception for administrator review. You can choose one of the three options, or you may select all of them.
8. Duration before shift start that is considered normal - This value specifies the amount of time before a shift starts that punches are still considered valid for distinguishing overlapping shifts. In these cases, the system will assign the punch to the most recent shift.
9. Round joined punches - If enabled, a ‘Job Transfer’ or any other scenario where the OUT and subsequent IN punch happen in the same minute will be rounded according to the shift class or open shift rules. If not enabled, the time remains unchanged. This setting is ideal for rounding times per individual job.
